UCCS recently hosted Colorado’s first Spanish-language cybersecurity camp, bringing the world of digital security to life for Spanish-speaking middle school students.

This weeklong camp offered an immersive introduction to cybersecurity basics—all in Spanish. Designed to engage young minds and their families, the camp blended interactive classes, online resources, and hands-on activities, making cybersecurity accessible and exciting for a new generation.

“This camp was a true community effort,” said Gretchen Bliss, Director of UCCS Cybersecurity Programs. “It wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated partners, including the National Cybersecurity Center, Rocky Mountain Public Media, and key sponsors like the El Pomar Foundation and Lockheed Martin.”

The program concluded with a memorable graduation ceremony featuring inspiring speeches from role models and appearances by notable local leaders. Steve Cruz, a UCCS cybersecurity Ph.D. graduate now at Notre Dame, shared his journey alongside El Paso County Commissioner Longinos Gonzales and Colorado Springs Councilwoman Yolanda Avila.

Driven by the camp’s success and strong community enthusiasm, UCCS plans to offer more Spanish-language cybersecurity events in 2025.
