Now active in 18 of Colorado's 22 judicial districts and covering 85% of the state’s population, these dashboards allow the public to access trends in case handling, treatment of individuals, and crime response.
The project, a collaboration between CU Denver, the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council, and local DA offices, uses data to inform fairer, more effective decision-making. “This project supports transparency and helps DA offices identify areas for improvement,” said Lauren Gase, PhD, project director at CU Denver’s Evaluation Center.
Funded by Microsoft’s Justice Reform Initiative, the data dashboards empower DA offices to enhance community trust, improve case outcomes, and address disparities in justice.
By embracing data-driven insights, Colorado’s justice system is evolving to meet the needs of its communities. This demonstrates how growth comes from understanding and addressing challenges head-on.
With continued leadership from CU Denver, Colorado is setting a new standard for data-driven criminal justice reform—one defined by transparency, accountability, and the courage to embrace change.
