The CU Promise Program Expands Access to Higher Education at CU Boulder
CU Boulder is dedicated to making higher education more affordable through its CU Promise program, which provides free tuition and fees for Colorado resident students with significant financial need. Since its inception in 2006, CU Promise has opened doors for students who may have previously viewed college as unattainable due to financial constraints. The program was expanded in 2023 to increase eligibility, allowing even more students to benefit from this initiative.
The CU Promise Program at CU Denver
The CU Promise began in the fall semester of 2005. The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) guarantees that eligible Colorado residents from low-income families will be able to afford the academic costs of a college education without going into debt.
If you are eligible, CU Denver offers a financial aid award package that includes a combination of grants, scholarships, and work-study sufficient to fund the student share of tuition and fees.
The Colorado Promise: Two Free Years of College
Starting in Fall 2024, the Colorado Promise initiative will offer a complete reimbursement of out-of-pocket tuition and fees for students from families earning $90,000 or less.
Eligible students can attend any public postsecondary institution in Colorado—including community colleges, public four-year universities, area technical colleges, and local district colleges. They will be able to claim the credit on their 2025 taxes, making higher education more accessible than ever.
Together, the CU Promise and Colorado Promise programs exemplify CU's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and ensuring that all students have the chance to pursue their dreams.
